Short Description of the Wet Lab
This advanced wet-lab is built upon the information of the basic course and focuses on the microscopic evaluation of avian blood films and cytology specimens. It is based on a collection of more than 50 pre-evaluated cases. Every slide is accompanied by a double-sided laminated sheet. The front page contains a series of photographs of the cytomorphologic characteristics of the slide. The back page contains the complete evaluation including haematologic/cytologic diagnosis, comments, and critical report. Histologic sections of the same case will be available for many cytologic specimens for comparison. The collection encompasses a large variety of species including Psittaciformes, Falconiformes, Strigiformes, Sphenisciformes, Gruiformes, Galliformes. The aim is to train the recognition of physiologic and pathologic characteristics of cells, patterns of inflammation, and pathogenic structures such as urate crystals, bacteria, viral inclusion bodies, or hemoparasites.
