Short Description of the Lab
The lab will be focused on loco-regional anaesthesia techniques in the rabbit.
The session will be scheduled in two parts, a theoretical introduction and a practical lab with active involvement of participants.
The first part will be focused on peripheral neuro-anatomy of the rabbit and on the explanation of the loco-regional techniques that can be performed in this species. The approaches used in loco-regional anaesthesia will cover most anatomical sites and will be divided in the following portions: head, forelimb, thorax, abdomen and hind limb.
Available blind techniques for loco-regional anaesthesia will be described in detail. A short introduction on the use of the nerve-stimulator will be followed by movies showing the possible approaches to nerve blocks in the rabbit and the muscular twitches which can be elicited for each nerve to correctly perform the block. Finally ultrasound images of the nerves for various anatomical sites will be shown and a description of the approaches to ultrasound guided loco-regional anaesthesia will be provided.
The second part of the wet lab will be totally focused on practice, applying the theoretical notions acquired in the first part, and will be performed on rabbits’ cadavers. Applicants will put in practice the explained techniques on the cadavers with both blind approaches and ultrasound approaches.
