Short Description of the Wet Lab
The level and quality of avian medicine improved very fast over the last 20 years and several techniques usually applied to common pet animals, such as dogs and cats, are now used in avian diagnostics, as well.
Beside radiology, which is a common tool in any small animal veterinary practice, and has always been used in the diagnostic process of birds, other more or less recent techniques, such as endoscopy, ultrasounds, magnetic resonance and CT scanning are nowadays used also for birds.
Ideally, the wetlab is divided in two parts: a first part, which is more theoretical, is designed to point out the most important differences, under an imaging perspective, between birds and the more common pet animals. A second part will present practical cases (radiology), and a hands on lab with the chance to learn and practice ultrasound and endoscopy with real birds.
