Michael Pees graduated from the Justus-Liebig University Gießen in 1999. Since 2000, he works at the Clinic for Birds and Reptiles, University of Leipzig. He finished his doctoral thesis in 2001, based on a research project on echocardiographic exminations of the heart in psittacine birds. The use of imaging techniques is still one of his respearch focuses. Further current research projects include Salmonella and ferlaviruses in reptiles. He holds two European diplomas (DIP ECZM (avian) & DIP ECZM (herp)) and he is a member of the ECZM executive committee for the last seven years. He is also a member of the Icare steering committee.
